All About Me!
Hi!
My name is April. I'm 25 years old and currently based in County Monaghan. I have a BSc. Hons. in Midwifery from DKIT and I'm currently a registered midwife and have been for the last two years. I also have a couple of years experience working as a healthcare assistant in a variety of settings while I was a student, and I've been volunteering as a Community First Responder in my local area for about 5 years now.
Here at Bump, Birth and Babe, we focus on a "no bullshit" approach to preparing families for their journey. We cut out all the crap you don't really need and don't believe in telling you how "magical" pregnancy is, or how much of a fairy tale the journey will be. Instead, we believe in preparing you for the real stuff, what you actually need to know and it might happen in real life (because believe it or not, Hollywood has been lying to us for years!). It is a strictly no judgement area, so you are welcome here no matter what your situation: married, single, natural, IVF, LGBT, adoption, teenagers, high risk or low risk. Whatever your case, you'll find something here to help you.
As someone who has battled through the 4 year programme to get my midwifery degree, I can completely understand how rough it is. What I thought was going to be the best years of my life (thanks social media for really high standards or university life), turned out to be a very long four years of working night shifts, studying during the day, having no social life and mental health that pretty much doesn't exist anymore. My goal is to provide support and education for students to help them through their course and give them the confidence they need for entering the big bad world of childbirth.
So, What are you waiting for? Let's get educated!
